The initiative was carried out in collaboration with Mindanao State University in Naawan (MSU-Naawan), which provided the sex-reversed tilapia fingerlings as part of its continuing effort to increase productivity and improve the living conditions of fisherfolk in the region.

Aside from the fingerlings, the association also received 228 sacks of tilapia feeds, agri-chemical supplies, and post-harvest materials for a total of P390,639.64 funded under the program’s Tilapia Culture in Pond (TCiP) project.

The stocking activity is a key part of broader efforts of the bureau to develop the aquaculture sector in Misamis Oriental, while ensuring that local fisherfolk have access to the resources, knowledge, and protection needed to thrive in a competitive market.

By introducing these sex-reversed fingerlings, farmers can now efficiently produce an all-male population, which is highly desirable due to its faster growth rate.

On behalf of its members, FAK president Juanito Pamisa expressed his gratitude for the continuing support and resources provided to them.

โ€œWe extend our sincere gratitude to BFAR-SAAD 10 for their ongoing support and collaboration, especially in enhancing the livelihoods of our community through sustainable aquaculture,โ€ he conveyed.

Accordingly, the tilapia culture period would last approximately 4-5 months until harvest. During that period, the agency’s SAAD program, through its local area coordinators, will ensure that monthly sampling and other specific training are provided to the beneficiaries.

During the stocking activity, technical staff from the Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation (PCIC) were also present to assist the fisherfolk in enrolling in Tilapia Culture in Pond (TCiP) for crop insurance.
