In a bold move to support and uplift the livelihoods of fisherfolk communities, the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources 10 Special Area for Agricultural Development (BFAR-10 SAAD) Program Phase 2 through its Provincial Project Management and Support Office (PPMSO) in Lanao del Norte launched a comprehensive initiative involving the distribution of fingerlings and feeds to local fisherfolk associations.

Six out of eight identified fisherfolk associations in the province received livelihood assistance. A total of 200,000 tilapia fingerlings and 132 bags of feed as partial inputs were given to Ragonan Farmers Association, Linindingan Tilapia Growers Farmers Association, Mapantao Green Farmers Association, Matungao Integrated Farmers Association, and Tangcal Fisheries Farmers Association. The Linamon Farmers and Fisher Folks Agriculture Cooperative received 15,000 milkfish fingerlings and 254 bags of feed.

The distribution was initiated by SAAD provincial staff, Abdullah L. Macadato and Welejun S. Cambal. Also
present were the municipal agriculturists and agricultural technologists of each municipality in support of the livelihood assistance received. The fingerlings, with proper management, are expected to boost the productivity of local fisheries, thus ensuring a steady source of income for the fisherfolk. This initiative aligns seamlessly with the program’s goal of contributing to poverty reduction and improving the living conditions of vulnerable fisherfolk and their communities. (YKGerente//PFO-LDN)
