MACABALAN, Cagayan de Oro City โ€“ The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources in Region 10 (BFAR-10) culminated its month-long celebration of National Womenโ€™s Month (NWM) on March 31 at the BFAR-10 compound, with a tribute to the indispensable sectoral role of women.

Director Edward B. Yasay reaffirmed the agencyโ€™s commitment to gender inclusivity, highlighting the significant contributions made by women in the workplace as well as their selfless efforts in carrying out initiatives meant to improve communities, especially the fishery sector, all throughout Northern Mindanao.

โ€œAs public servants, our role is to promote inclusivity and improve the lives of those we serve. I hope that as we commemorate this year’s Women’s Month, you found inspiration in the work that women have put into these activities,โ€ he said.

Moreover, Director Yasay urged all personnel of the office to use this insight to direct their actions and responsibilities as committed individuals striving for significant change.

โ€œI hope that everyone has found significance in this monthโ€™s celebration. Let us carry that meaning forward as we continue our work as public servants and as proud members of BFAR Regional Office 10,โ€ he added.

Meanwhile, a major part of the event was the awarding ceremony of the โ€˜Pinay sa Lenteโ€™ photography contest and the Seaweed Cooking Contest participated by women fisherfolk across the region.

The photography competition was initiated to exclusively capture the essence of this year’s theme, โ€œBabae Sa Lahat Ng Sektor, Aangat Ang Bukas Sa Bagong Pilipinasโ€, highlighting female workers across all sectors, especially in fisheries.

Participants from various provinces submitted meaningful images that showcased the strength, resilience, and determination of women in their daily work.

On the other hand, participants in the cooking contest showcased their culinary creativity by preparing unique and innovative seaweed-based dishes.

The cooking competition featured the versatility of seaweed as a valuable marine resource but also the skills of women fisherfolk in transforming it into delicious and nutritious meals.

Lastly, the celebration’s successful conclusion showcased BFAR-10’s dedication to empowering women while encouraging inclusion towards sustainable fisheries development.
