MACABALAN, Cagayan de Oro City (Jan. 27) – In collaboration and coordination with the Provincial Fisheries Office of Misamis Oriental and the Local Government Units of Magsaysay and Medina, the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources in Northern Mindanao (BFAR-10), thru its Fisheries Resource Management Section (FRMS), successfully conducted fish sanctuary assessments last January 22-24, 2025 as part of its ongoing campaign to advance responsible fisheries management and marine conservation.

The team from FRMS conducted assessments, covering three coastal barangays of Magsaysay (Candiis, San Isidro, and Villa Felipa Damayuhan) and two coastal barangays in Medina (Bulwa and Duka), aiming to evaluate the current status of the protected areas and ensure the sustainability of local marine resources.

During these assessments, the team led the site inspections, habitat assessments, and biodiversity monitoring to determine the overall health of the marine ecosystem, the results of which will then be used to develop strategies to enhance fish sanctuary management.

BFAR-10 and its stakeholders remain steadfast in its commitment towards progress, unity, and sustainable fisheries development, in support of community-based initiatives that will safeguard marine ecosystems in the region. (KLapad/BFAR10-FRMS)
