This initiative aims to assess the progress and impact of the program on local fisheries and strengthen support for fisherfolk communities.
The team visited co-ops and associations handling and processing bangus, seaweeds, tilapia, siganids and sardines in the province. The Lala Fishermen Cooperative, Simbuco Aquamarine Multipurpose Cooperative, Baroy Stakeholders and Fishermen Cooperative, Kapatagan Rural Farmers and Fisherfolk Association, P-6 Poblacion Fisherfolk Association, Rupagan Fisherfolk Association, Tangueguiron Seaweed Growers and Fishermen Cooperative, Nagkahiusang Mangingisda Alang sa Kalambugan sa SND and, Paglingkawas Women Federation were among those that were assessed.
The monitoring and evaluation activity focused on the current status of fisheries projects implemented in various municipalities, examining their effectiveness, sustainability, and contributions to the economic growth of the provinceโs aquaculture and capture fisheries sectors.
BFAR-10, in partnership with local government units and fisheries associations, gathered feedback from fisherfolk beneficiaries and evaluated the challenges and opportunities in the implementation of F2C2 projects. The team also inspected facilities, production sites, and ongoing livelihood initiatives to ensure compliance with program goals and standards.
“The F2C2 program plays a crucial role in empowering our fisherfolk by promoting collective action and resource-sharing,” said Joycie Yanez, BFAR10 F2C2 Regional Focal Person. “Through this evaluation, we can identify gaps, improve strategies, and enhance the impact of our projects in Lanao del Norteโs fisheries sector.”
Preliminary findings indicate positive outcomes, including increased production and stronger collaboration among fisherfolk organizations. However, the assessment also highlighted the need for capacity-building activities, technical support, and infrastructure development to sustain the programโs benefits in the long term.
The DA and BFAR-10 remain committed to strengthening the fisheries sector in Lanao del Norte through the F2C2 program, ensuring that fisherfolk gain equitable access to opportunities and resources for improved livelihood and food security.
