The training marks the first of a six-part project management training series designed by DAP sa Mindanao based on the results of the gap identification survey rolled out by the Regional Project Implementing Unit (RPIU) 9 among the five FMA Coordinating Units (FCUs) earlier this year.

Participants of the TNA training are personnel under the Support to Project Implementation (SuPrIM), MARLIN (Modern and Resilience Livelihood Interventions) and FishCRRM (Fisheries Coastal Resilient Resource Management) components of the five FCUs, including RPIU-9 and key organic personnel of BFAR’s Regional Fisheries Training and Fisherfolk Coordination Division (RFTFCD).

In his remarks, RPIU 9 Lead Edward Yasay urged FMA 9 personnel to take advantage of the training, considering the existing needs and gaps facing the FishCoRe implementation in FMA 9.

β€œLet us not look at our limitations, but at the opportunities we have to continue the work that we do. More importantly, let us do what is right and do it right,” Yasay added.

Meanwhile, DAP sa Mindanao Acting Vice President Mark Lemuel Garcia thanked BFAR RPIU 9 for the collaboration. He highlighted DAP’s willingness and role to synergize with other government agencies in advancing civil service for the Filipinos.

The three-day capacity-building activity covered topics that sequentially built upon the participants’ outputs across sessions. Participants worked in groups to conduct simulated FGDs, survey design, and stakeholder coordination, which were tailored to FishCoRE’s implementation context.

DAP Central Office Human Resource Development Division Chief Marietta Quevedo-Umbay served as the training facilitator. Drawing from her decades of experience, she encouraged participants that civil service involves intentionally and strategically bridging gaps.

Umbay discussed the various tools for conducting TNA that could be integrated into the FishCoRe project, especially since it has grassroots beneficiaries.

Participants expressed appreciation for the training. Rose Marie Piloton of FCU 7 shared, β€œThe learning I gained will help me carry out my tasks better and work more harmoniously with our training team.”

The next training session in the series is scheduled for June 25-27 and will focus on value chain analysis. (MPamisa | FishCoRe RPIU 9)
