MACABALAN, Cagayan de Oro City (Sept. 14) β€” To streamline workplace processes and enhance organizational productivity, the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources – Region 10 (BFAR-10) recently conducted a comprehensive 5S orientation program, here today.

Participated by office staff from the bureau’s provincial fishery offices, divisions, sections, and units to equip them with essential tools for creating a more organized and productive work environment. The orientation kicked-off with an informative presentation led by 5S expert, Jae Judith Mallonga, a senior administrative assistant from BFAR Central Office’s administrative division, highlighting the key principles and benefits of the program. Attendees were encouraged to actively participate and ask questions, creating an engaging learning environment.

β€œProductivity comes from the elimination of waste: the waste of time, waste of money, and waste of effort. At kung isasagawa natin yan sa kung saan man tayo, mapa-workplace man o bahay, sigurado akong mas pursigido tayong magawa ang mga mas makabuluhang mga bagay sa pinakamaiksing oras,” explained Mallonga on the essence and philosophy of the 5S.

The 5S program, derived from Japanese workplace organization principles, stands for Seiri or Sort, Seiton or Set in order, Seiso or Shine, Seiketsu or Standardize, and Shitsuke
or Sustain. It emphasizes the importance of maintaining a clean and organized workspace, optimizing workflow, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.

With laser beam focus on BFAR-10’s commitment to efficiency and continuous improvement in its operations, the resource speaker inspected photos the bureau’s staff provided for critique and improvement. The experience allowed employees to immediately implement what they had learned and witness the positive impact on their work environment.

Fisheries Management, Regulatory and Enforcement (FMRED) officer-in-charge, Atty. Roland Intud, emphasized the significance of the 5S program, saying, “By adopting these principles, we are not only improving our workspaces but also enhancing our ability to serve our constituents effectively. A clean and organized workplace fosters productivity and professionalism.”
The bureau’s head management anticipates heightened workflow efficiency, enhanced productivity, and an invigorated work environment that stimulates innovation and excellence by the end of the month through an
office makeover contest dubbed β€œMission S Possible”, anchored by the 5S principles. (CLViajante//BFAR-10)
