𝗖𝗔𝗠𝗜𝗚𝗨𝗜𝗡 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗲 (𝙅𝙪𝙡𝙮 23) – In a bid to enhance the local fishery sector and increase fish population in the province, the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources 10 – Special Area for Agricultural Development (BFAR10-SAAD), thru its Provincial Fisheries Office (PFO) of Camiguin, handed over 2,500 pieces of rabbitfish fingerlings each to the Benoni Fisherfolk Association (BFA) in Mahinog and the United Fisherfolk of Cantaan (UFOC) in Guinsiliban, this province.

The dispersal of fingerlings, led by the Provincial Fishery Officer Vianney Anthony A. Gapuz, aims to revitalize the local fish population while leveraging the area’s rich seagrass growth, providing an ideal habitat for the fish to thrive.
The rabbitfish, also known for its local name ‘kitong’, is valued for its high market demand and adaptability to local marine environment, making it an ideal species for aquaculture projects in coastal provinces like Camiguin.
BFA president Florido B. Labadan expressed optimism about the program which gave them hope to have a better catch and improve their livelihood.
“Dako akong pasalamat sa BFAR-SAAD sa walay puas nga tabang sa amoa. Nalipay g’yud me hilabi na niining mga fingerlings kay makahatag g’yud ni siya ug kalamboan sa among asosasyon,” he said.
[I am grateful to BFAR-SAAD for their unwavering support. We are truly happy, especially with these fingerlings, as they will greatly contribute to the development of our association.]Labadan also urged his fellow fisherfolk to value the support they have received, as it will help them grow their livelihood and explore new opportunities for the benefit of the entire group.
Likewise, this initiative is expected to provide a significant boost to the local fishing industry, resulting in both economic benefits and increased fish stocks in the province.
Lastly, BFAR-SAAD continues to closely monitor the progress of the initiative and plans to expand similar programs in other provinces, underscoring its commitment to sustainable fisheries management and community development.
